The History of Holloway Tax Service

In 1976, Holloway’s Income Tax Service was launched by Lena Holloway, sister of Deborah Holloway, the current owner. Lena developed an interest in tax preparation and decided to obtain some professional training to become a tax preparer. She was very well known throughout the Syracuse community as a person with multiple talents, an extraordinary love for people, and a desire to help in any way that she could.  She was very active in church activities and business affairs and many of her initial tax clients were church members.  As her business grew, she trained family members to assist her, including her sister, Deborah, her brother James, and her nephew, Tony. Upon completion of Deborah's graduate degree in Accounting, the services offered by Holloway's Income Tax Service was expanded to include Accounting and Financial services to small businesses, faith-based organizations, and other community non-profit organizations.  In 1993, Lena passed away and sister, Deborah Holloway, took over the business with assistance from James and Tony.

The business has experienced continual growth throughout the years.  The business was originally a home-based business, but is now located in a professional office building at 580 South Salina Street, 2nd floor, Syracuse, New York.

The current owner, Deborah Holloway-Egbuna is an experienced and professional accountant that has been working in the accounting field for over forty years. She received a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Business Administration/Accounting and Mathematics from the State University of New York at Albany and obtained an MBA degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin –Madison.  Deborah and her husband Gregory have three daughters.

Upon completion of graduate school, Deborah accepted a position as an Accountant for the Central NY Regional Transportation Authority in Syracuse, NY.  She was promoted to various positions throughout her 20 years of employment at the RTA with ten years of experience as the Controller of Finance. As the Controller, she was responsible for managing the Accounting for more than 23 million dollars of funds received for the RTA and its four subsidiaries. At the RTA, Deborah supervised the Accounting, Purchasing, Revenue Collection, and Parts Inventory Departments.

Deborah left the RTA in 1997 and decided to work solely in her own business to have a more flexible schedule and spend more time with her husband and three young children.  As stated earlier, she had already been preparing income taxes part time with her sister, Lena, for many years.  She decided to expand the business to offer additional services.
